Today we’re introducing the first information about one of the most highly-anticipated features of DINOX World — the ability to breed dinos! Our dino scientists have been working hard on developing a secure system in which dinos can breed, without total chaos ensuing and baby dinos wreaking havoc everywhere! It is no easy task, but they’ve managed to confine this complex scientific process into a relatively simple formula. Let’s break it down!
To enable Breeding, a player must construct a specific Breeding Facility on their Island in DINOX World. Only NFT dinos can breed, the “starter” non-NFT dinos are sterile and can’t be bred. Like in real life, the breeding process needs two dinos. Dinos can only breed one time, however, we should mention that in the future, there will be a way to alter the dino’s DNA allowing them to breed a second time (more on this down below).
The Breeding Process
Breeding will cost 20 Liberation Crystals. A player can cancel the breeding process if they choose to, however, the Crystals will not be refunded. While breeding, the NFT dino pair involved can’t be used in battles or any other game modes. The player shouldn’t transfer the NFT dinos involved or sell them during this process or else the breeding will be canceled and they’ll lose their Crystals.
Only one pair can breed at a time in the Breeding Facility (upgrading the facility gains the ability for more breeding pairs at one time, MAX 5 pairs at once) and the breeding process takes 7 days to produce a young egg. The breeding process can be sped up with $DNXC — 1500 DNXC to get the young egg instantly, 800 DNXC to cut the time in half (3.5 days).
This young egg needs to be cared for and mature before it becomes hatchable, a process that also takes another 7 days. The young egg is not an NFT and can’t be bought or sold on the market, however, once it matures it becomes an NFT dino egg that players can keep, sell, or hatch themselves. The egg maturing process can also be sped up with $DNXC — 500 DNXC to mature the egg instantly, 350 DNXC to cut the time in half (3.5 days).
A feature we will roll out later is that while the egg is young, players will have to care for that egg to ensure it matures properly (Tamagotchi-style)! Caretaking will be done in the same Breeding Facility and requires small actions once per day. In DINOX World, eggs have feelings too! Some of the actions can be to turn off the incubation light if the egg is too hot or turn on the light if the egg is too cold, and you may even need to pet your egg if it feels too lonely.
When the egg needs some care, the 7-day timer will stop until that action is performed. Therefore, players need to pay attention to their egg daily in order to avoid delays in maturing it. Don’t worry, the young egg can’t die so if you forget about it for a while all you are doing is extending the egg maturing period until you perform the tasks needed. Once the egg has matured, it’ll become hatchable and the hatching is free for all Generations!
Breeding Pairs
Only the same generation of dinos can breed together. Meaning Gen 0 dinos can only breed with Gen 0 dinos, Gen 1 only with other Gen 1, and so on. Also, the breeding pair must be of the same dino class (Carnivore with Carnivore, Herbivore with Herbivore, Flying with Flying). Any rarity can breed together and breeding a higher rarity dino will grant you a higher chance that the offspring will be of a higher rarity as well. The exact system is very complex and will be revealed closer to the date when actual breeding is enabled in DINOX World.
Breeding two dinos of the same species will result in offspring of the same species (T-Rex + T-Rex = T-Rex). Breeding two dinos of different species will result in an offspring with a 50% chance to be either of its parents (T-Rex + Velociraptor = 50% chance of T-Rex, 50% chance of Velociraptor).
The resulting offspring is a “hybrid” generation, where two Gen 0 parents will produce a Gen 0–1 offspring and two Gen 1 parents will produce a Gen 1–1 offspring. These offspring are fully usable in the game, however, they are not able to breed themselves… at least not without a little DNA modification.
DNA Modification
This advanced feature of breeding will be released later on and we will have dedicated information about the specifics once we get closer to rolling it out. However, here is a sneak peek at some main elements of DNA modification.
- There will be special materials (other than our main Resources) that are required to modify a dino’s DNA.
- These materials need to be combined to create a sort of DNA modification serum which can be used to modify their dino’s DNA to gain one of 3 new functions:
1. The ability to breed a second time (or for the first time in the case of dino offspring)
2. The ability to breed with a dino of a different class (i.e. Carnivore with a Flying dino; requires both parents to have this DNA modification)
3. The ability to ensure that a completely different species of dino is born (T-rex + Velociraptor = Stegosaurus; requires both parents to have this DNA modification) - For each DNA modification serum, the player can choose only one of the three abilities to give their dino and it can only be used one time. The player must use another DNA modification serum again for another effect.
Future Breeding Mechanics
In the far future, we are planning to implement a special mechanism — breeding recipes. You will be able to find them in the game or unlock them for completing particular quests once those game modes are launched. Breeding recipes allow players to breed specific dinos together to get a premium rare dino (a very limited supply of them). The offspring might even be a whole new species only obtainable in this way!
We’re very excited to unleash breeding in DINOX World but our dino scientists are adamant about the need for everything to be thoroughly tested before it can be released. After all, we’re talking about creating life here! If Jurassic Park has taught us anything, it’s that one should be very careful when bringing dinosaurs back from extinction!
